What each class is for
Fundamentals (Gi & NoGi)
The starting point. Techniques taught step-by-step, each one connecting to the last so you're building a system, not collecting moves. No experience needed and no live sparring until you're ready. This is where the four-week beginner course lives.
Mixed Ability (Gi & NoGi)
The main training session. Techniques from the current curriculum block that chain together into a connected game, positional practice, then sparring rounds at whatever pace suits you and your partner. First-weekers and competitors share the mat.
Lunchtime Classes
A full session condensed into your lunch hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays: warm-up, technique, a few rounds, done by one. Popular with anyone whose evenings belong to family or shift work.
Open Rolling
No teaching, just sparring. Friday-night rounds with different partners at a pace you agree between you. It's the best place to test what you've been drilling all week.
Open Mat
Unstructured mat time on Sundays. Roll, drill, ask questions or just watch. Members from every level turn up, and it's where a lot of the community side of the club happens.
Gi vs NoGi: what's the difference?
Gi classes use the traditional jacket and trousers (we'll lend you one), where grips on the cloth make things slower and more methodical. NoGi is shorts and a t-shirt: faster, no cloth grips. Neither is better, and most members train both.
